Hartstein, CIC, entered the insurance business with Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. in 1952, and was promoted to agency manager in 1955. In 1968, he was appointed to Life Brokerage manager for INA Life. In 1969, he started in the Property & Casualty business where he served as Vice President of Pratt Ins. Inc. and Dover Insurance Agency. He was instrumental in establishing one of the first surplus lines agencies in the State of Delaware. In 1974, he assumed the presidency of Marshall Pusey Agency which was later changed to The Insurance Market, Inc. In 1987, James J. and Stephen M. Hartstein acquired The Insurance Market. The two brothers managed the agency for 34 years until they retired in 2021.
