Milwaukee’s oldest independent title insurance agent began on July 1, 1949 when William Hoyer opened his own title insurance agency. Kansas City Title Insurance Company was looking for an agent in the growing Milwaukee area, so William sold his Kenosha abstract company to begin a new company in the booming Milwaukee market. Title insurance was a relatively new product that was beginning to replace traditional abstracts – it offered insurance protection from past ownership claims, something that abstracts lacked. William’s oldest son, Nic, joined the business with him.
